Melissa Robbins has been teaching violin at Jerudong International School in Brunei since 2006, where she also conducts the middle years orchestra. A Suzuki-trained teacher specializing in both violin and viola, she is committed to a holistic approach to music education, helping students develop not only as musicians but also as confident, resilient and resourceful individuals who approach challenges in all areas of their lives with grit and perseverance.
Her teaching has also taken her beyond the international school environment. From 2018–2019, Melissa spent a year teaching violin and viola at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Palestine. This experience broadened her perspective on music education and strengthened her belief in the role of music in building confidence, community and resilience across different cultures and educational settings.
Melissa is passionate about making music accessible beyond the school environment and contributing to Brunei’s wider musical community. She served as Chair of the Brunei Music Society during the 2017–2018 season and has been actively involved in performances and music-making within the community throughout her career.
